Description & Access

The Flaxy Lakes are part of the Wheao Hydro Scheme and are to be found in the heart of the Kaiangaroa forest, reputably the biggest man-made forest in the world. Access to the forest can be gained from either the Rotorua - Murupara Highway (SH38) or the main Napier-Taupo Highway but only if you have obtained a permit to travel through the forest.
